“And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, ‘Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ Having said this, He breathed His last. -Luke 23:46 NKJV
William McDowell sings a song that says, “I give myself away so You can use me.” We often find people of God who will openly remind God that they are available for His usage. The challenge that we find with believers is the aftermath of the completed assignment. This is truly Jesus committing His spirit to the Father as flesh dies, but the spiritual component that we are witnessing is exemplary for believers.
After He “finished” His assignment, He immediately commits His spirit to the hand of the Father and His physical body is going to be in hiding for three days. This text should remind of what the Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:27 as we bring our bodies into subjection unless we would become castaways after preaching to others. It is an unfortunate yet common event to see some with smiles and appreciation for praise after the Lord has worked through them; however, the people of God should be encouraged to say thank you and redirect the glory to God.
